The German Shepard and the Lake.
There was a mere hidden in the garden
Of the woman who was to be my warden.
But since I wasn’t even close to ten,
That tiny pool was to my senses
An infinite lake filled with magic and flowers
And some strange fish and other greens.
I enjoyed strolling, dancing around
Holding on to my tiara and wand.
You walked beside me as a good hound
In fear that my daydream
It would push me down the stream.
And I always wonder even after you went away
If you could understand my words when I say,
From your pointy ears and waggly tail,
That even if I wasn’t older than ten
I could swim better than a mermaid princess.
